Introducing TimberCreek GC #FacesFromTheFairway 2021!! We felt our great friend, Larry Webber was more than well-deserving of our inaugural #FFTF post!! This is just our way of celebrating some of you that help define what this course is all about: community, fun, and friendship, and will allow everyone to get to know our #TimberCreekFamily a little better on the course, and beyond . . . A little more about Larry that he was kind enough to share with us, 18 questions/holes, Q & A style:
Front Nine
1. Where did you grow up? South MPLS (actually, I’ve never totally grown-up)
2. Was golf a part of your childhood? No
3. Who taught you to play? Self-taught, which is evident when watching my swing.
4. When and where did you play your first round? Around 1970 at Dwan Golf Course in Bloomington, MN.
5. Did you play high school or college golf? No, I was too busy working at that age.
6. Do you have a long time golf partner or friend? My wife, Jill, and our awesome golf group and friends: Jim Law, Dan Hanson, Geno Fluegge, Tony Vetches, and Bob Hunt.
7. What has golf taught you about life? In life and in golf, even doing all the right things, there’s good luck and bad luck as there are good bounces, bad bounces, and lucky bounces.
8. What do you love most about the game? The friendships made on the course can be your lifelong friends.
9. Best golf memory? Shooting my age at 71. And, a hole in one twice, with the same group both times.
Back Nine
1. What was, or is your profession? Retired as an independent contractor
2. Do you speak more than one language? No, English only
3. Do you play a musical instrument? No, I didn't have the patience to learn one.
4. Other than golf how do you spend your free time? Maintaining 3 acres full of trees keeps me busy.
5. Favorite food? Pork: grilled chops and ribs (sans bbq sauce)
6. Favorite color? Blue
7. Favorite song or band? The Eagles
8. Favorite movie? I never developed an interest in movie watching
9. Favorite quote? P-A-T-I-E-N-C-E / Be kind to everybody.
Additional thoughts (can be TCGC specific): We (my wife, Jill, and I) joined Timber Creek in the early 90’s and have enjoyed decades of good golf and good fun while watching the course mature and grow. Our regular group of seven is down to five. We tell the same jokes, hit the same bad shots, and have a great time each round. We have a secret spot on the 18th hole where our names will one day be on a stone, forever a part of Timber Creek. Brooks and Amy Ellingson and their staff have made Timber Creek such a pleasurable experience, and have restored the course as a golf club.
